STORIES OF MONSTERS
(As Told By Monsters)
What if monsters weren’t so scary, once you heard their side of the story?
VOL. 1 & 2
ABOUT:
Stories of Monsters (As Told by Monsters) by A.Skaltsounis is a thought-filled Social Emotional Learning (SEL) collection of children's stories that invites kids into the inner worlds of the creatures we’re usually taught to fear. Told from the monsters’ own perspectives, this anthology gently reveals that behind every toothy growl, furry worry, or hilltop hiding place are feelings many children already understand.
Each monster has a story; some feel anxious in new situations, some struggle with BIG emotions, and some feel misunderstood or easily overwhelmed. Each story is unique, inspired by varying empathy/emotion topics, and modeled for social-emotional learning with a positive resolution. Through honesty, courage, and self-discovery, they learn ways to navigate their feelings and find connection, calm, and confidence to approach life anew. Additionally, large vocabulary words are peppered in color throughout to inspire further curiosity and discovery. (A Vocabulary Monster-nary)
By flipping the traditional narrative, Stories of Monsters helps children build empathy not just for others, but for themselves. The collection normalizes emotional struggles while showing that growth is always possible. With a comforting balance of gentle humor, honesty, and heart approaching big emotions, this collection teaches children that even the scariest feelings can be understood, and that sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is tell your story.
A compassionate, perspective-shifting series that turns fear into understanding and monsters into mirrors, nurturing empathy.
